ITINERARY:
Day 1: CUSCO – PISAC - OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES
In this tour, our local guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 07:45h and 08:25h. We will then head to the SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS, where we will visit the traditional market of Qoroy. From here, you can take excellent photographs of the Andes Mountains. Next, we will visit Pisac with its typical handicraft market and the archaeological site of Pisac with its picturesque terraces cultivated on the mountain.
We will continue to Urubamba, passing through different landscapes of the native towns of Lamay, Calca, and Yucay. Finally, we will arrive in Urubamba, where a buffet lunch is included. Afterward, we will proceed to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, where you will take a uphill walk to enjoy the beautiful view this place offers.
At 16:30h, you will have free time to explore the area on your own. At 18:30h, you should be at the train station to travel to Aguas Calientes, where you will arrive at 20:40h and be transferred to your chosen hotel.
Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
The day begins very early in the morning to take the bus with our guide from the town center, which takes 25 minutes to reach Machu Picchu's citadel entrance. Here, we will start a guided tour for 1 hour, during which the history of the place will be explained, from its construction to the time it was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham. After bidding farewell to the guide and the group, you can explore the citadel on your own, with time to see the missing constructions or climb one of the mountains, either Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu, if included in your ticket. After this experience, return to Aguas Calientes to be at the train station half an hour before the scheduled departure on your ticket. You will arrive at Ollantaytambo, where you will be waiting to take the transportation to Cusco city center.
Visit to the archaeological site
To enter the Machu Picchu archaeological site, you must have the entrance called "Llaqta Machu Picchu." Remember that if you choose a program without an entrance, you can buy it on the Ministry of Culture's website.
The entrance will give you access to the archaeological site following one of its 4 circuits, which you must choose once you are at the entrance to the citadel:
- Circuit 1: High and low parts of the archaeological site, as well as the area of terraces for 3 hours.
- Circuit 2: High and low parts of the archaeological site, as well as the routes to Inti Punku and the Puente del Inca for 4 hours.
- Circuit 3: Lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, Inca House, and the Archaeological Reserve for 1 and a half hours.
- Circuit 4: Lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, Inca House, Sacred Rock, and water mirrors for 2 and a half hours.
We recommend choosing Circuit 2 to explore the citadel, as you will be able to visit a greater number of attractions within Machu Picchu and take classic photographs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I already have my entrance ticket to Machu Picchu purchased. Is it possible to reserve the program deducting the entrance from the total price?
Yes. To make the reservation this way, you must write to us at reservas@greattriptitikaka.com, indicating the number of people traveling and the date they want to start the program, and we will send you the corresponding quote along with instructions for booking.
How long does the visit to Machu Picchu last?
The visit lasts for three hours. In the first hour, a guided tour of the citadel will take place. Then, you will have the rest of the time to explore the citadel freely.
What documents do I need to prove that I am a student?
The student discount is valid as long as you are a maximum of 25 years old. Similarly, it is valid if, at the time of booking, you send us a copy or photo of your university ID. This must have the following information:
- Full name of the university.
- Full name of the student.
- Photo of the student.
- Validity year (if you will visit Machu Picchu in 2020, the ID must indicate 2020).
The following are not valid documents:
- Enrollment receipt.
- Regular student certificate.
- Student transport card.
- ISIC card.
How far in advance should I book the activity?
We accept reservations with a minimum of 48 hours in advance. However, spaces are limited and always subject to availability. Tickets for the Machu Picchu citadel have high demand, sometimes selling out months in advance. For this reason, we recommend making the reservation as far in advance as possible.
What is the weather like in Machu Picchu?
Machu Picchu is located between the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, with a warm and temperate climate, with an average minimum temperature of 12°C and an average maximum temperature of 24°C. From April to October is the dry season, meaning there is a lower probability of rain during that period, while from November to March is the rainy season, meaning there is a higher probability of rain during that period. However, despite the mentioned differentiation, there is a possibility of rain every day of the year, as it is a subtropical zone.
Is it possible to add a night of accommodation in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco one day after the tour?
Yes. To make the reservation this way, you must write to us at reservas@greattriptitikaka.com, indicating the number of people traveling and the date they want to start the program, and we will send you the corresponding quote along with instructions for booking.
