DAY 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Wayllabamba (5 hours, 8 km hike)
Pickup from your hotel and transfer from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. Here, we will have time for breakfast (not included) and to buy any last-minute items before starting the trek: water and snacks to keep you energized on the journey. We will then transfer by vehicle to km 82 in Piscacucho, where the first control is located, and where we will begin our trek. After 2 hours, we will pass by the archaeological site of Patallacta at an altitude of 2750 m. After 45 minutes from there, the lunch of the day awaits us. After having recovered energy, we will continue the route for 1 hour and a half more to the first camp: Wayllabamba. Dinner and instruction from the guide for the next day before going to sleep.
DAY 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca Pass – Pacaymayo (8 hours, 12 km hike)
After breakfast in the morning, we will start the day's hike, walking for 45 minutes before reaching the second control point: Wayllabamba. After this, we will begin an ascent to reach Llullucha Pampa at 3800 m. We will take a brief rest before continuing towards Warmiwañusca Pass at 4215 m, the highest point of the trek. From there, we will head to the Pacaymayo campsite, where we will have dinner and rest for the next day.
DAY 3: Pacaymayo – Wiñay Wayna Campsite (12 hours, 16 km hike)
Starting early, we will notice the change in landscape and feel the warm temperature of the jungle climate. We will pass by numerous archaeological sites, including Runcurakay at 3750 m, the pass of the same name at 3900 m, and the site of Sayacmarka. After this trek, we will have lunch in Chaquicocha and some time to rest before continuing to the next site: Puyuptamarca at 3750 m. From this point, we will begin the descent to the Wiñay Wayna campsite, where we will have dinner, receive instructions from the guide for the next day, and have free time to rest.
DAY 4: Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco
At 03:30h, we will depart to continue the descent to the last control point, where we will wait until the gates open to continue the journey to the citadel. After this point, we will walk for another hour and a half until we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, from where it is posible to see the entire citadel of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu in the background. Here, we will stop for a few minutes to take photos and then continue to the citadel, where we will have a 1-hour tour with our guide. They will provide more historical details about the different places within it. Afterward, there will be time to climb one of the optional mountains, Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu, if you included either in your entrance ticket. Following this, we will go to Aguas Calientes, where we should arrive half an hour before the departure of our train at the station to begin the return. Arrival at Ollantaytambo and then to the center of Cusco by vehicle. End of service.
